For humility is the principal virtue

"which must be practised by those who pray,
and, as I have said,
it is very fitting
that you should try to learn how to practise it often:
that is one of the chief things to remember about it
and it is very necessary
that it should be known by all who practise prayer.
How can anyone who is truly humble
think herself as good as those who become contemplatives?"
from The Way of Perfection, Chapter 17
by St. Teresa of Avila
